Disclaimer: This is a relatively long entry about the out of town trip I had with some college friends. If you don't like reading long entries. Better not read this at all. I'll be editing this entry once I get home and I will be placing some pics here as well so that it would not be a sea of gray.
I was having second thoughts of going with my college friends in Zambales since it's a bit too rainy to go to the beach. We've been planning for it for almost a month since our friend Abbie went home from Shawarma Land for a vacation here in the Philippines. I didn't want to spoil Abbie's stay so when I woke up at around 5 in the morning last September 13, I told myself, "Hey, you deserve a break! Go up north and be with your friends!". The hell with the rain, but at the back of my head I was hoping that we'll just have a great time and nothing bad should happen. Since my bag is already packed, I texted George that I'm good to go and I'll just meet 'em up at the Victory Liner bus terminal in Caloocan. So I ate breakfast, had a few pandesal and off to the bathroom, took a bath and got dressed up.
I walked towards the village gate to catch a bus to Monumento, thank God it didn't take that for a bus to arrive. I hopped in off to snoozeland again. I arrived at the terminal a little pass 8 in the morning. They were there already having breakfast at the carinderia. So while waiting for the 9am bus to Zambales, we chat a little and took some pics. A little before 9am, we hopped in the bus and guess what, Upper and I are left no choice but to sit in the same row. I think the other guys are crazy, why let to fat people sit together in a single row? But in any case, we're still thin, we're not cramped up in the bus. Upper went to snoozeland right away. This is probably the longest bus ride I have ever been to. I am excited so I didn't care that much.
After like an hour, we reached Lubao, Pampanga's bus stop wherein we are able to get off the bus and stretch our legs and arms a bit. We grabbed something to eat again. I light up a stick of ciggy to kill time. And after like 15 minutes, we took off and headed straight to Zambales. The bus ride took around three or four hours I think. We passed through several towns including Olongapo and Subic Town. I have no idea they were two different towns. But anyway, we arrived at San Antonio, Zambales around noon time. The city looked like a ghost town, it's a quite town and you would never see that much people walking around even in the town proper.
We took a trike from San Antonio town proper to Brgy, Pundaquit wherein Megan's Beach Resort is located. Megan's beach resort isn't too fancy, it's just a normal beach resort with rooms. We were originally planning to camp out at Anawangin Cove but then, my idea of getting a room at a beach resort won since the weather isn't that good. So we talked to the caretaker and asked what type of room they have available. The caretaker offered two options, a 1600php room and 1800php room. We asked what the difference is, 1800php room is boasting a hot shower and CATV. So, we decided to get 1800php because of the hot shower and CATV, and by the way, it's also an air conditioned room. Not bad if you ask me. When we got in to our respective room, room 6 and 7, we tried to turn on the television set but there's nothing to watch, just a blue screen which looks to me like a chroma board. So, we thought maybe they haven't activated it yet. We then decided to take a walk outside the resort and look for a place to eat since we haven't had lunch. We found this small carinderia and they have some food. We ordered Pork Sinigang (weird because they used porkchop). So we pigged out as usual.
We then went back to our room and changed to our beach outfit. Off we go to the beach. The waves are crazy, it's indeed a surfer's paradise. There's a lot of surfer dudes around which makes me want to try it out, well, someday. When I'm a bit slimmer.
We walked towards the far left side of beach and to my surprise, there's a freaking river that we have to cross to be able to go the far end of the beach. So we did, the current in the river mouth is crazy, it's so hard to cross it and I am thankful that I have strong leg muscles. After the struggle in the river's mouth, I sat in the shore and I saw this really really hot surfer chick with a really really cool tattoo on her upper and lower back. She's my "flavor of the day" that day. I took some paparazzi shot of this chick. After that, I decided hit the sea and join my friends there. Strong waves keeps pounding us in rapid succession which is fun and dangerous at the same time. After a while, we got a bit tired and we all sat at the shore. And again, we took photos of each other.

After a few while of resting, we walked towards the far end of the beach wherein there are some springs. There's another stream that leads to the sea. After a while, it rained but it didn't stop us from having fun. That's what we are, we're all about having fun. We then took pictures, of course, we're all a bunch of camera addicts.
After a crazy half day at the beach, we went back to the resort to get some rest. We had a simple dinner at the resort, blue marlin and rice. Then we bought a few bottles of booze and had a little drinking session at the boys' room. The ambiance of Pundaquit will make you think it's already around 1 or 2 in the morning but in fact, it's just 10pm. We called it a night at around 11pm I think.
The next day, George and Kate woke up and ask if we can go to the islands, and thank God, the waves is a bit behaved. So off we go. We went to Capones Island wherein we aren't really convinced that it is Capones Island since we were not able to see the lighthouse (I read about it when we got home, it is indeed Capones Island, so we really have to go back there because I will take pictures of the lighthouse, aight guys?!). Capones Island is a really cool place, when the boat docked at the shore we were like, is this the beach?! Is this really the beach?! We didn't know that we have to go to other side of the island to see a better view. We had to trek through the grass land and it is kind of itchy. Not the type of grass I like, if you know what I mean. But anyway, when we reached the other side of the island, the view is just awesone and the song from Discovery Channel played at the back of my head. Blue ocean, white sand beach... and garbage?! Yeah, you read that right, there's garbage in the shore which probably got washed because of the current. But overall, the beach in Capones Island is really nice, hopefully, they will clean it up.

After Capones Island, we hopped back in to our boats and head to Anawangin Cove, the sea swells are crazy, they are probably around 5-10 feet high. It's more like Rio Grande Rapids. I got wet. Really really wet. But it was fun and exciting, and again, dangerous. After like 20 or 30 minutes, we got to Anawangin Cove, well, not really Anawangin Cove since the boat needs to drop us off at the other side Anawangin Cove since the wave in Anawangin Cove is crazy. The boatman told us that we can get to Anawangin Cove but we had to get over the hill between the beach we are in and Anawangin Cove. I was telling my friends not to do it but they insist. I was telling that that they are will really regret it once we are on our way back because I know for a fact that it is easy to climb a hill but it is always hard to go down a hill. But in any case, we pushed through with the trek.
We climbed this rock face which I think is around a hundred feet high. It's pretty steep as well. One wrong step, you're dead. We managed to climb the rock face and the view from the top of the hill is breath taking, the view of Anwangin Cove is crazy. The adventure did not stop there though, we still have to go down the hill. The hill is kinda muddy and slippery since it just rained. We had to be really really careful with every step. After what seems to be forever, we are able to reach Anawangin Cove, but due to the rain or probably the storm Marce, a portion of the beach front of Anawangin Cove is washed off, and the Anawangin Swamp and the sea itself is no connected and you have to cross what seems like a river flowing to the sea. Badge, almost got wiped out by the current, thanks to the people who's in the other side, they were able to save Badge from being wiped out completely. After crossing, we went for a swim in the swamp (not in the beach itself because it's dangerous.). It rained hard the wind is crazy, the sand from the beach is all over the place and when the sand hit your skin, it's more like somebody is firing BB pellets at you. We kind of freaked out, well, I did, I was thinking about the gut feeling I had the day before we left for Zambales. I was having a gut feeling that something will go wrong with the trip, I thought we will be stranded in Anawangin Cove. Which can't be because I have work the next day.

So, while waiting for the rain to stop, we popped our cans and ate tuna and sausage. The hell with the sand in the air, the hell with the sea water. We're hungry! We also met people from Chevron who happened to be there in Anawangin Cove as well. We left the place together with the Chevron peeps. We took a different trail this time, a much easier trail. We got back to our boats and rushed back to Pundaquit.
We didn't eat lunch, we took a bath and prepared to leave for Manila. We left Megan's Beach Resort a little before 4pm. We waited for the bus in the highway, we took an ordinary bus to Olongapo since we will be taking the aircon bus there. We got to Olongapo at around 5pm. We ate lunch, err, dinner at Chowking. After that, we're off to the Victory Liner terminal in Olongapo and head home. We got to Cubao at around 9pm. We parted ways there. I still had to take another bus to Pacita.
It was tiring but it's fun! A lot of fun and it's also dangerous! Just like what Ramon Bautista always say.
